Become Qualified & Take Your Career To The Next Level

$49

Duration 1 Hour

The purpose of this course is to teach the theory and practice involved in safe use of hot sticks to perform live transmission line repair. Basic safety issues and basic techniques for the care, selection, and use of hot sticks are presented. The course builds on a basic understanding of how to work on transmission towers and the use of high-voltage rigging techniques to demonstrate replacement of string insulators using hot sticks.

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to describe the safety issues important in performing live transmission line repair using hot sticks. They should be able to care for, select, and use hot sticks. They should also be able to explain how to replace string insulators in all three common positions.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

null

Define “hot stick.” and explain the meanings of “potential,” “safe working distance,” and “minimum clearance” as they apply to hot stick safety.

null

Recognize some of the basic types of hot sticks and hot stick accessories used for transmission line maintenance.

null

Explain the type of planning necessary to perform a job using hot sticks and the purpose of the coating on hot sticks.

null

Describe a basic procedure for changing out insulator string in the suspension position on a spar pole structure.

null

Identify the types of hot sticks used to change out the insulators string and safety considerations associated with using hot sticks.

null

Describe a basic procedure and the basic techniques when using hot sticks for changing out a “V” string of insulators on a lattice tower.

null

Explain the planning considerations necessary to prepare and the major tasks that must be accomplished for changing out string of dead-end insulators on a lattice tower.

null

Identify and explain the functions of the basic hot stick equipment needed to perform this type of job and the basic considerations for safety on this type of job.
