Rigging for High Voltage Line Work

Become Qualified & Take Your Career To The Next Level

$49

Duration 1 Hour

The purpose of this course is to teach the basic principles of rigging for high-voltage work and to demonstrate how these principles apply in three typical rigging jobs. Particular emphasis is placed on basic safety issues and on properly planning a rigging job.

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to explain how to approach rigging near energized lines. They should understand how to plan a job and how the amount of strain involved affects the size and type of equipment selected. They should also be able to describe how to rig to remove strain from a transmission insulator

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

null

Define “safe working distance” and ``load control`` as it applies to working around high-voltage components.

null

Describe the three basic stage of a high-voltage maintenance or repair job and some of the basic rigging tools used for rigging around high-voltage equipment.

null

Conducting a tailgate meeting according to industry best practices, multilingual requirements, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) General Duty Clause

null

Describe equipment placement and rigging that can be used to safely change out a vertical string of insulators on a wooden spar structure and the tasks involved and the sequence of operations necessary to rig for a vertical insulator changeout.

null

Demonstrate the rigging techniques that can be used to safely change out a vertical string of insulators on a wooden spar structure.

null

Describe the equipment placement and rigging necessary to safely change out a string of insulators in an inside “V” on a concrete “H” structure and the tasks involved and the sequence of operations necessary to accomplish the changeout.

null

Describe the equipment placement and rigging necessary to safely replace a spar arm on a wooden spar structure and the tasks involved and the sequence of operations to accomplish the spar arm replacement.
